Regions

Your pod, your region

Pick the region when you deploy. Pods and their backups stay inside it: Canadian pods back up to Canadian storage, and nothing routes through a third party.

How regions work

Direct traffic

Requests go straight to the server running your pod, not through a CDN proxy: large uploads, long-running requests and SFTP all work, and nobody in the middle reads your traffic.

Backups stay in the region

Each server sends its snapshots to off-site storage in the matching data region.

Moving between regions

Pods can be moved to another region later from the panel (a short stop while data is copied); your openpods.net address follows automatically and custom domains keep working.

Optional CDN for public sites

Websites such as WordPress or Ghost can add a CDN later for faster pages worldwide. Never on by default, never for app dashboards.

Lifetime pod packs

Lifetime pod packs are tied to one region per account.
